Suffering from a serious sweet tooth? Head to Key West and indulge in a bit of the city's new official dessert. Can you guess what it is?

During a meeting on March 1, 2022 the Key West City Commission voted unanimously to make Key Lime Pie the official city dessert. Key lime pie, which was created in the Florida Keys and was named the official Florida state pie in 2006, has long been a central aspect of a vacation in Key West, so this new declaration feels long overdue. The pie conjures thoughts of sun, sand. and tropical fun- just like Key West!

This comes right as strawberry shortcake was declared the official state dessert, much to the dismay of key lime pie loyalists. This move by the commission affirms the cultural and historical significance of key lime pie in the Florida Keys.

There are tons of places to get key lime pie while you're in Key West. Kermit Carpenter is a Key West institution where pie lovers can enjoy traditional pie or something a little bit more unconventional, such as a frozen chocolate-covered key lime pie on a stick! If you love meringue, then you should head to Blue Heaven for a mile-high pie slice!
