The Best Ways to Get Around Town in Key West

May 1, 2022

One of the most stressful things about traveling is trying to figure out how you're going to get around town. Driving in a new city can be stressful (and expensive).  Luckily, Key West has lots of a great transportation options. Ditch the car and check out these alternative ways to get around town!

Key West isn't a large city, but it can be difficult to navigate. A big part of the difficult comes from the fact that cars and trucks have to share the roads with golf carts, scooters, bikes, and other smaller, slower vehicles. Parking costs can also eat into your budget. As a result, it is often better to turn to alternative transportation!

Taxis and Rideshares

While you're in Key West, you're bound to see lots of pink taxi cabs. While the pink cabs are popular for their fun color, there are lots of companies operating in town. The Key West airport recommends Big Al's Taxi, Big Al's #2 (ADA Van), Florida Keys Taxi, Island Coaches, Key Lime Taxi, and Yellow Cab Company.

The popular rideshare services Uber and Lyft also operate in Key West, so if you prefer to use rideshare apps, you're covered!

Duval Loop Bus

Did you know that Key West has a free bus? The Duval Loop Bus is a free hop-on. hop-off bus. It runs year-round except for select holidays. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip around the city!

Bikes

Bikes are always in demand in Key West. They're a fun way to get around, and they allow you to fully experience all of the gorgeous scenery. Rentals are reasonably priced- $10 to $15 a day for a basic cruiser, compared to $5-$6 an hour for Key West's parking lots and garages.

If you chose to bike, you'll have to keep a few things in mind. First, remember to stay alert. Not all roads have bike lanes, so you'll have to share the roads. Second, remember to lock up your bike when you're not using it. Bike theft is an issue in town, and you don't want to get in trouble with the rental companies.
